Opinion? What's that?

This week, I-Mod has announced the public release of their Tech Tree Viewer tool. You may recall their past holiday releases of high-quality tech tree posters--now you can make your own for personal viewing!

The Tech Tree Viewer will not only read in your base game tech trees and produce tree maps for them, but it will also scan any mods you have, and produce a high-quality tech tree map for each race in each mod you have installed. No more wondering just how the latest mod's new tech trees are laid out!

You can find screenshots, and the download over on the official release announcement, and as always, stay tuned for news of the latest mods and releases over on I-Mod's Impulse blog.

To clarify, this public release does not allow printing or exporting, only viewing.

Sweet! Keep em coming.

What's up with the required registration?

To clarify, this public release does not allow printing or exporting, only viewing.

An odd limitation. Can be overcome with a PrtScm and a decent graphics editor, though. Or modification of the GUI sourcecode.

just do it, and then you act against the user agreement... We are web-observant and would find it and handle immediately.

But to be honest, we recognized, that it is much faster and comfortable scrolling through the trees in the Techviewer then looking at a Techtree.jpg.

Even high End PC's need time to zoom in and to scroll, the Techtree Viewer doesn't.

So to be clear, we are not restricting any huge advantage. If people want Techtree poster for there mods they can request one, we will create ones for them to prevent modification on the posters.

Didn't read the agreement. Haven't even downloaded it, in fact. Also never said anything about making anything public.

Depending on the technology used for viewing the image. Microsoft's DeepZoom would likely do just as well as the TechTree Viewer.

. . . but I would likely use the image for printing.

Does anyone have the tech tree viewer or another link?  I never seem to be able to visit the I-Mod site, it never shows up.

Thanks for any help.

Finally could D/L this... indeed, we can view trees only; it would be much more useful if we had the ability to at least save a GFX file of anything we load in. Possibly later.

X-Worlds version crashed it, but i understand why; unconventional enough.

Tacos

as soon as we integrated the watermark we will release a print techtree viewer

x worlds maybe crashed it cause the mod name in your moddescriptions.xml is possibly "generic". We are working on it to prevent such crashes

it's kinda pointless without being able to print.

I seem to be utterly unable to view any of my own custome races, i even tried renaming one of them to terran and saving a back up of the original tech tree, it still wont view properly in the viewer

Why is there no 'I want to open this tech tree *points to specific XML file*' option?

I am very dissapointed in this viewer, it seems totally and utterly pointless to me, I get the same fuctionality out of just downloading the tech tree from the wiki or viewing it in firefox.
