Opinion? What's that?
If you are unable to activate or register the game (via SDC, or after installing the latest patch), you're likely encountering one of a few common problems.

1) Your game came with NO serials at all.
There have been some reports of legitimate retail copies of the game not coming with a serial key at all. If you are sure your copy is legitimate and it did not come with ANY serials, contact support@stardock.com.

2) You're using the wrong serial.
This is a simple but common mistake. The Collector's/Limited Editions of the game normally include two serial keys (one for the game, one to unlock the special extra content). Be sure you're not trying to register with the CE serial (the one that begins with GC2). Use the other one which consist of 28 letters/numbers (A-F and 0-9 ONLY) with no dashes.

3) You bought a used copy of the game.
If you (intentionally or not) bought a used copy of the game, you may receive a message when attempting to register/activate to the effect of the serial already being in use, or your email address not matching the one the game was originally registered with. Stardock will not remove an activated serial from the original owner's account and give it to you.

You have a few options in this case. You can:
  • Keep the game and stick with the 1.0 version on the disc.
  • Return the game to the place of purchase. Some retailers still accept returns, especially if they resold to you a returned copy that the original owner has effectively pirated (resale is prohibited by the EULA).
  • Contact stardock support (support@stardock.com) and ask about pruchasing a new serial code at reduced cost.

4) You bought the European Limited Edition.

Some copies of the Limited Edition of the game distributed in Europe were shipped with only the code to unlock the special Ltd. content, (beginning with GC2) and not an actual game serial. You can request a game serial by providing your Limited/Collector's Edition serial and email address on this form: http://galciv2.com/paradox/index.aspx

5) You bought the US Collector's or Standard Edition in June or later.
There have been several production runs that shipped to retail in the US without the correct keys. Some Collector's Editions shipped to WalMart and Fred Meyers included two CE keys (beginning with GC2-), but no game serial. Some Standard Editions have shipped to Best Buy and other retailers with a single CE key and nothing else.

In either case, please first try inputting your serial and email address on the European serial exchange page, which has been updated to include most of the serials from these production runs: http://galciv2.com/paradox/index.aspx. If that does not work, please contact support@stardock.com with your problem and they will provide you a game serial to use.

Please keep in mind they can only answer during business hours, so if you contact them on a weekend you will not receive a [human] reply until Monday at the soonest. You should receive an automated reply immediately upon receipt of your email, though (check that it is not filtered by any spam protection you have in place). If you do not receive an automated reply, your own message was likely stopped by Stardock's spam filters, so you will obviously never get a reply to that particular message! If all else fails, try getting on Stardock Central's Chat and speaking with an employee directly during business hours (IRC users: irc.stardock.com, channel #Stardock or #GalCiv).

6) You bought a pirate/bootleg copy of the game.
Despite our best efforts, sellers on eBay and elsewhere continue to sell bootleg copies of GC2. There are usually many tell-tale signs that these copies are not legitimate which become obvious once you receive them: poorly printed disc art, cheap-looking packaging, missing documentation, etc. Most of these copies claim to be used "Import Version" games, and the sellers claim that documentation is excluded because it is not in English. If these copies contain a serial key at all, they are generally already registered or just random gibberish.

In any case, there is no support for users of pirate/bootleg copies. If you purchased them through eBay, you may be able to file a claim and get your money back, but there are no guarantees. If you wish to own the game with updates and support, you must purchase a legitimate copy, which will entitle you to your own serial key and all the associated benefits.

Simply register that one serial as both DL and DA in the Tools->Register Products menu in SDC.

I'm having some trouble registering my game, which I bought at retail, the packaging looks legit but everyone says the serial # should be on the jewel case.

What I want to know is, is there any scenario underwhich the serial # would be printed on the CD itself, or have I been ripped-off?

It seems that Paradox did a cut-down re-release in which they did do that, and some people have had issues with registering them. Contact support@stardock.com and they should be able to get you fixed up.

Good morning,
I´ve tried to activate GC2:DL via activate@stardock.com, but i was unable to reach it with an e-mail

Contact support@stardock.com then with a note that you were unable to do email activation, and the <activate>....</activate> block that you put in your initial email, and they should be able to do it manually for you.

I bought a Gold edition off of ebay and the guy said it was BRAND NEW and the key is already registered, evidentally. Anyway, I opened a ticket and I was wondering how much the serial would cost?

I just bought it off this site and performed a serial lookup... the key that stardock gave me themselves doesn't work. Now I have to wait all week-end to use a digital download because of a registration problem. You know, it would be easier for me to just reverse the charges as "product not delivered" and take my 60 bucks for buying the ultimate gal civ 2 bundle and buy an xbox 360 game that I KNOW will work out of the box. We'll see what support says on monday but if I'm going to have to go through this every time... it will be the last time I buy anything from Stardock.

I don't have any problems with the resistration and so on BUT, it was certainly confusing. I bought a Gold Edition a week ago or so but I had hard time registering/updating. SDC seems fine with me but, it would been helpful if there was something like 'How to register/update' in the manual or some where. OR did I just miss something. It surely isn't impossible but may people seems to be having problems. Hope this is improved so people don't have to get confused/upset even if it was the users problem or what ever.

I just sent an e-mail to activate@stardock.com for an activation of GALCIV2: DA on my home computer (wich is not internet connected). How long does it takes to receive the activation? I have no problems with SDC but i wish that this activation process would be automatic.

Thanks, Gerry

It should be almost immediate. If you don't get anything back within 24 hours, contact support@stardock.com with the <activate>.......</activate> block and they can do it manually.

Thanks Kryo, i contacted support.
But you know, i choose the download-only system just to be able to play the game as soon as it is on my hard drive. I have GALCIV, registered it, activated it, SDC knows who i am (i bought other games), why do i have to wait for another autentication again?

I just purchased TotA expansion, I own the original GC2, and DA expansion. The first two are both registered to one email account, but when I bought TotA I used PayPal and it assigned it to a different email account. Will this pose any issues? I have access to both email accounts, and it seems to have activated/registered the game properly.

Thanks

Either my last post was automatically removed because of this one, or this forum seems to have a serious bug ... but whatever

I bought TotA yesterday via Stardock Central (digital version only, 29,... Dollars). After updating GC2 and DA, I installed TotA. The key was valid and Stardock says, the application has been successfully activated.

Buuuuuuut ... I would not be here if I could play that game. It's not possible. The sig.bin-file seems to be generated with wrong properties or something, the game does not launch. Tried it twice today including a fresh install of TotA, but that doesn't help.

Facts in short
- Yes it's a legally bought copy
- It's not used
- It's the digital version
- I never played the beta so I must not have to remove it.
- Stardocks says, the key is fine and the product is activated successfully

So what can I do?

Contact support@stardock.com and request an account merge. Everything needs to be on one in order for TA to be downloaded.

Contact support@stardock.com about this and they should be able to get you up and running.

Okay, lets give it a try.
Thanks.

I'll post results here in this posting via edit.

Errrr ... btw, do they need a copy of that sig.bin?
